Whilst looking to set up a suitable dominate name for my new site, I was fair scunnered * to discover that “weirview.co.uk” had already been claimed; by a luxury guest house in Pangbourne, W. Berkshire carrying a TripAdvisor rating of 4.5 no less!
Weir = a low dam built across a river to raise the level of water upstream or regulate its flow; therefore this quality guest house has a view to the weir, simples!
It is said that every cloud has a silver lining and as the web hosting company’s automated system threw up alternative domain names (most of them unsuitable) I spotted “myweirview.com” – this was surely a Eureka moment. And it reinforced upon me the sense that for 22 years, as a professional photographer, I had been (mostly) dancing to my wedding, portrait or commercial client’s tune; here was the opportunity to express my vision of this small part of the world I inhabit, un-beholden to the dictates of others.
And so was born MY WEIRVIEW, literally my view of things.
