Imagine this; a centrally placed tree bearing an explosion of golden-brown leaves, set against a background of variegated greenery, all perfectly mirrored in the still surface of a Scottish loch. Believe me, I really had intended to keep this picture in colour as I was reasonably happy with the finished edit but I did wonder what it would be like in black & white. In the end I was blown away with this mono conversion. I quickly concluded that the colour version was but a rather garish record shot of the original scene, whereas this monochrome is an image of subtle beauty. The pre-dominant tree and its reflection have been brought to life against a range of tones of grey; and the image has become raised to something more meaningful …… or I could just be delusional?
