A VISIT TO THE ARRAS MEMORIAL

These are images from a long overdue visit to the Faubourg-d’Amiens Cemetery at Arras in north-east France. My great-uncle, Private James McIntosh of the 7th Bn. Cameron Highlanders, 15 (Scottish) Division is one of 35,000 names commemorated on the Memorial who died in the Arras sector of the Western Front in World War 1 between spring 1916 – august 1918 and who have no known grave. I am sure James’ brother, my grandfather Daniel McIntosh, would have been proud that I made this visit on his behalf; as the saying goes, better late than never.
